The Reserve Bank announced in March that it will be conducting a review of the framework that is used to determine capital requirements for registered banks.

Further to this review, an issues paper was released by the Reserve Bank on 1 May 2017. The issues paper has identified a number of topics and issues in which the capital adequacy framework will be assessed, and sets out six “high-level” review principles, which the Reserve Bank will have regard to throughout the review.

This is the first public consultation for the review of the capital adequacy framework. The Reserve Bank seeks views on the range of topics and issues listed in the issues paper, and whether some issues ought to be given heightened priority. Submissions on the issues paper close 9 June 2017.
